Fr. Robert Hussey, SJ, reflects on his work at GC36 and on our new Father General

Fr. Robert Hussey, SJ, provincial of the Maryland Province Jesuits, took a moment during his work at the 36th General Congregation in Rome to reflect on his experience there and on the election of Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, the 31st Superior General for the Society of Jesus.

More than 200 Jesuits have been gathered in Rome since early October, electing the new Father General and evaluating the mission and direction of the Society. Fr. Hussey speaks about the fraternity, commonality and spirituality among his fellow Jesuit delegates at GC36 that have enabled them to accomplish the often difficult task of working on important decrees and conversations with Jesuits from all over the world. Having known Fr. Sosa before his election as Superior General, Fr. Hussey offered some kind words about the Jesuits’ new leader. “Fr. Sosa is a wonderfully warm man … He relates so easily with everyone. He’s quick to smile, and people feel at ease approaching him.”
