Fr. Scott Pilarz, SJ, Appointed Next President of the University of Scranton

Next year, Fr. Scott R. Pilarz, SJ, current president of Georgetown Prep in Washington D.C., will become the president of the University of Scranton, where he previously served as president from 2003 to 2011.

In a message to the community of students and faculty at Georgetown Prep, Fr. Pilarz said, "Serving as president of Georgetown Prep, the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit school, is a great grace in my Jesuit life. Over the past three years, I have come to appreciate the uniqueness of this amazing Jesuit institution. Prep is an exceptionally special place, and it is special because of its passionate alumni, dedicated faculty and staff, and, especially, our talented students. Each day of my service at Prep has been a blessing that will forever live in my memory. It was here that I took my final vows, and here that I grew to understand fully the powerful and transformational experience of the nation's finest Jesuit high school education."

Fr. Pilarz looks forward to his next challenges and opportunities at the University of Scranton, where he is already held in high regard for his many past accomplishments. He will succeed Fr. Kevin P. Quinn, SJ, whose term as president ends in June at the close of the 2016-17 academic year. Fr. Quinn is also pleased at Fr. Pilarz's appointment, saying, "I have no doubt that Scranton will continue to thrive – and its Jesuit essence continue to grow stronger – under the leadership of Scott Pilarz."
