JESUITS Magazine wins 2017 CPA Award

July 5, 2017 - JESUITS Magazine, the magazine of the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces won a 2017 Catholic Press Association (CPA) award (Second place) in the Best Religious Order Magazine category. The awards, announced each June, highlight excellence in print and digital media among CPA members in the U.S. and Canada.

The magazine, published several times per year and adapted online, is mailed nationally to friends of the East Coast Jesuits. Recent issues of JESUITS have focused on Jesuits Finding Light in Dark Places, the announcement of the new Superior General and news and feature stories related to Jesuits and their partners in ministry spanning Maine to Georgia.

The CPA award cited compelling, current layout and relevant story topics that characterize JESUITS, along with well-organized content and design.

JESUITS is published as a joint publication of both the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces, edited by Michael Benigno (USA Northeast Province) and Michael Gabriele (Maryland Province). “Over the last few years, we have approached the magazine in a thought-out and deliberate way to refine all aspects of the magazine, from its theme and visual presentation, to its distribution and even its paper stock,” said Michael Benigno, director of communications for the USA Northeast Province. “I think Mike Gabriele and I view the work as a great gift and a considerable responsibility, sharing, in print, some of the meaningful and impactful work of Jesuits and their partners.”

"It's great to be recognized by the Catholic Press Association like this," said Michael Gabriele, director of communications for the Maryland Province. "But the accolades that really hit home are from our readers who have overwhelmingly praised the updates we have made to the publication. Not to mention all the new people who have requested to be added to our mailing list!"
