Remembering Those Jesuits Who Have Died

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die …” – John 11:25-26

Dear Friends,

These words from our Lord in John’s Gospel are a powerful promise—a comforting reminder that despite the inevitability of death, new life in His name awaits. The passing of a loved one always comes with a sense of loss for us. We console ourselves in the promise that they are in the everlasting peace of Christ’s presence, and we celebrate their lives by remembering with gratitude the joy we experienced during their time with us.

Below you will find a list of our brother Jesuits who were called home to the Lord this past year. We find solace in the hope that each of these men who dedicated their life to the Church and to the Society of Jesus, now have a share in God’s eternal Kingdom.

As you reflect on your own loved ones who have recently passed away, we invite you to email their names to us. Both of us experienced the loss of a parent this year, so we share with you in the range of emotions that comes with commending to the Lord someone so dear to us. As you write the names down, we invite you to remember very particular blessings that you have known in them. Email us at ctyner@jesuits.org, and we will include their names in our Masses and prayers during the month of November.

The Jesuits of the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces offer a heartfelt prayer of thanks for your graciousness and continued support. Our Scholastics in formation, our priests and brothers in active ministry, and our senior and infirm Jesuits—all of us—are eternally grateful. Your generosity truly makes our work possible.

May God continue to bless and console you, as we remember those who have passed from this life to New Life.

Thank you,
