Father General Decrees a Unified East Coast Province

October 21, 2019

Dear Friends in the Lord,

On Saturday, October 19, Father General Arturo Sosa, SJ, signed a decree officially uniting the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces into one USA East Province, effective July 31, 2020.

This is an exciting milestone in our move toward creating a new province and is especially significant as it was signed on the feast day of the Jesuit martyrs, including St. Isaac Jogues, for whom a former novitiate and current Center for Spiritual Growth in Wernersville is named. We offer a heartfelt prayer of gratitude to the Lord as we progress in our journey to create a unified East Coast province that will continue to grow in service to others. It is always good while toiling in the work necessary to bring about meaningful change to see the fruits of our discernment and labor taking shape. This decree from Fr. Sosa is indeed a historic and welcome occasion.

We hope this announcement adds a sense of gratitude and passion to all the work our Jesuits and lay colleagues do for our provinces and the people we serve. We look forward to God’s continued blessings on us in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Fr. John J. Cecero, S.J.                                             Fr. Robert M. Hussey, S.J.
